WWW.NETWORKS deploys wireless SDH backbone network for Qatar Petroleum

Qatar Petroleum, the state owned oil and gas company of Qatar has selected WWW.NETWORKS to implement its telecommunications backbone infrastructure for its production stations and Halul island linking them to the onshore operational centre at Ras Abu Aboud.

The contract is a turnkey project involving Detailed Design, Engineering, Procurement, Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance Support. The project is scheduled for completion late 2007. The award of this technically complex project, to be implemented in one of the harshest environmental conditions in the region for microwave transmission, emphasizes the confidence Qatar Petroleum has in WWW.NETWORKS and extends the long standing relationship that commenced in 1996. WWW.NETWORKS has been responsible for the development of most of Qatar Petroleum’s telecommunications infrastructure at Mesaieed, Dukhan and Ras Abu Aboud.

The new SDH microwave ring network will provide STM-1 connectivity between the Production Stations 1, 2 & 3 and Halul island. The main land at Ras Abu Aboud will connect to Halul island using Qatar Telecom’s submarine cable. The SDH STM-1 microwave links will replace the existing 4Mbps microwave links.

The compact and cost effective New Generation MDRS-EC microwave radio from Marconi (now Ericsson) transmits STM-1 data streams in the 4 GHz to 13 GHz frequency range. It also has the capability to be upgraded to STM-4. The MDRS-EC’s size, low power consumption and flexibility made it the ideal solution for Qatar Petroleum. The MDRS-EC as well as the OMS 1200 STM 1/4/16 SDH optical multiplexer and the XMP1 access multiplexer will be managed using the Service On Access Network Management System.
