WWW.NETWORKS carries out BATELCO multi-service optical platform

Batelco, the largest operator in Kingdom of Bahrain to provide fixed, mobile and data services, will expand its Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) transport network by introducing Marconi’s next–generation multiservice optical platform, the OMS1664. WWW.NETWORKS was responsible for introducing Batelco to the benefits of the Marconi OMS1664.

The OMS1664 will allow the operator to seamlessly support increasing levels of voice and data traffic alongside other services such as broadband, whilst substantially reducing operating costs and increasing the flexibility of its network.

Marconi’s ServiceOn network management system will manage the platform, with WWW.NETWORKS providing installation and commissioning services to Batelco.

“The introduction of the Marconi OMS1664 into the Batelco network builds on WWW.NETWORKS other success in the region notably with the Qatar national operator Qtel” said Mr. Walid Gamali, managing director of WWW.NETWORKS FZCo. “The market is hungry for state-of-the-art technology capable of supporting growing customer demand for new data services and the OMS1664 enables operators to rapidly and efficiently deliver multiple data services across the entire network.”

The equipment is planned to be installed before the end of March 2006 and will form the backbone of a new ring complimenting the existing Marconi products within the network. Batelco is a long standing customer of WWW.NETWORKS and the network includes a wide range of Marconi products supplied and supported by WWW.NETWORKS including MSH91, MSH80, MSH51c, MSH41c, MSH11c and the recently deployed SMA1/4cp units for GSM base stations linked on fibre optic cables.
