WWW.NETWORKS to implement wireless SDH backbone network for ZADCO

Zakum Development Company (ZADCO), Abu Dhabi’s off shore oil company and part of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) group has selected WWW.NETWORKS to implement its telecommunications backbone infrastructure using the latest wireless technology of SDH radios.

The contract is a turnkey project involving Detailed Design, Engineering, Procurement, Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance Support. The project is scheduled for completion late 2007. The award of this technically complex project, to be implemented in one of the harshest environmental conditions in the region for microwave transmission, emphasizes the confidence ZADCO has in WWW.NETWORKS.

This project involves implementing an SDH STM-1 microwave radio back bone connecting the SCADA system at central controlling station (ACPT) to three satellite platforms called WSP, CSP and NSP. The microwave radio communication network will then be used to transmit voice, data and video signals. The network designed by WWW.NETWORKS and Marconi (now Ericsson) will replace the current 2Mbps radio equipment installed some 20 years ago.

The compact and cost effective New Generation MDRS-EC microwave radio is configured with 1+1 protection and quadruple diversity for maximum reliability. The MDRS-EC’s size, low power consumption and flexibility made it the ideal solution for ZADCO. The MDRS-EC as well as the OMS 1200 STM 1/4/16 SDH optical multiplexer and the XMP1 access multiplexer will be managed using the Service On Access Network Management System.

About ZADCO

ZADCO was established in 1977 to develop and operate the Upper Zakum Field, one of the largest oil fields in the world, on behalf of ADNOC and Japan Oil Development Company (JODCO). Besides Upper Zakum, the company currently operates Umm Al Dalkh, and Satah fields. Crude oil from Upper Zakum, Umm Al Dalkh and Satah field is pumped via main oil lines to Zirku Island for further processing, storage and to be exported. The company adopts the latest technologies in developing and operating these oil fields, with health, safety and environment concerns in mind, making it one of the leading operating companies in the oil industry in the U.A.E.
